85 illegal immigrants from Ethiopian arrested in Iringa

Police in Iringa have intercepted at least 85 illegal immigrants from
Ethiopia who were carried in vehicle with registration number T.478 DFE Scania going to Malawi via Kyela in Mbeya Region.

Immigrants were found locked in the container which had a small opening the only source of light in that container that was heady with smell of sweat.

According to Iringa Regional Police Commissioner (RPC) Peter Kakamba told reporters’ today that the incidence happened at around 11:30 am mid morning near in Mahenge Village, suburb of kibotola, Mazombe Ward of Mahenge Division, Kilolo District in Iringa Region.

RPC said police were on patrol in the ongoing crackdown operation
Iringa to deal with illegal migrants, human trafficking together with
other criminal offenses.

He narrated that police a holding driver Hance Mwakyoma, 28 a resident of Tukuyu, Mbeya Region and his assistant named Alex Adam, 32 a resident of Mbeya City Council, who was driving a vehicle with registration number T.478 DFE Scania in connection with incidence.

He said during the search and arrest exercise they found illegal immigrants in a no ventilated vehicle with only small hole ,who have entered the country without a permit from Ethiopia.

He said illegal immigrants are in Iringa police station custody while
preparing to take them to court tomorrow.

According to the RPC, preliminary investigations had established that the suspects were Ethiopian nationals who boarded the vehicle at Kongowe in Dar es Salaam.
