RC MASENZA URGES EMPLOYER TO COMPLY WITH HEALTH AND SAFETY STANDARDS

Iringa Regional Commissioner (RC) Amina Masenza has urged employers in the region and elsewhere to make sure they observe safety and health at places of work. 

She said that safety and health at work place is paramount to workers because without it there cannot production going on, adding that there is a connection between health production of goods and services. 

RC Masenze made the statement yesterday when she officially opening a one day symposium on safety and health at work held in Iringa, ahead of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work (Safe Day). 

She said that the country heading middle income economy together with industrialization, employers the obligation to make sure their workers were working on a safe and health place, hence reduction of occupational injuries and diseases. 

The director of training, Research and Statistics, occupational safety and health authority (OSHA) Joshua Matiko said the World Day for Safety and Health at Work (SafeDay) and the World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL) are coming together in a joint campaign to improve the safety and health of young workers and end child labour. 

He said that many countries are making significant investments in young people’s employment, education, training, skills development and job creation. 

Matiko noted that it is critically important to include occupational safety and health (OSH) in these programmes. 

In order to do so, it is necessary to understand and address the safety and health risk factors faced by young workers, said Matiko. 

However, Geita Gold Mine’s (GGM) continues to make strides making sure their workers were working safe and health environment in order to reduce occupational injuries and diseases to workers. 

According to GGM safety and health coordinator George Zabron, the mine has won the overall winner of the national occupational, health and safety completion for three years consecutively. 

He said that GGM mine has made sure it complies with the health and safety standards of workers so that workers can be productive. 

Zabron said that the mining firm became the winner for Occupational, Health and Safety awards in mining sector for the year 2017, a recognition which went hand in hand with celebrations of the World Safety and Health Day at work. 

The event took place at the Moshi Cooperative University (MoCU) grounds and was graced by the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister -Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and Disabled, Jenister Mhagama. 


GGM Mine is again participating in the national occupational safety and health event organized by OSHA event this time around at Kichagani grounds Iringa municipality in Iringa region . 

The event again this year 2018 is graced graced by the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister -Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and Disabled, Jenister Mhagama yesterday.
