Iringa Rotary club is a member of Rotary International which is a humanitarian Organization that addresses the needs of the community worldwide.
The Rotary International President selected the theme of “Planet Earth” during his term of office for the period of 2017/2018 Rotary year.
The Rotary club of Iringa took this theme and identified areas to plant trees in order to mitigate Global Warming. The basis of choosing schools as target beneficiaries aimed at creating an impact and lasting benefits to the schools community.
The club in collaboration with schools authorities wanted to impart practical knowledge, skills, and promote interest among pupils to develop the culture of planting trees within the school and after completing the school.
In this collaboration the administration of schools agreed to maintain those trees to ensure their survival using expected Interacts to be in charge of the trees.
The Rotary club selected Iringa Girls secondary and Wendyrayna secondary schools, both from Iringa Municipal Council, where Rotarians donated 298 assorted fruits trees and planted them in the school land.
The planting exercise was led by the President of the Rotary Club of Iringa Miraji Vanginothi, Club Members, school authorities, prospective Interacts, Teachers and students.
The leadership in the schools was mandated to care for the trees and assure their survival.
After planting trees the Headmistress Ms Blandina Nkondola of Iringa Girls secondary school and the Headmaster Mr. Elisha Elias Kigahe of Wendyrayana secondary school thanked the Rotary Club of Iringa for planting trees at their schools and promise to take care of them to the fruit-bearing stage.
