IRINGA Region have shortage of 1,581
teachers both in primary and secondary public schools, it has been learned.
In the primary deficit is 984
teachers and secondary schools is a shortfall of 597 teachers in science
subjects.
According to the Iringa Regional
Education Officer, Richard Mfugale during the celebration of the Week of
Education for the year 2017, the celebration was used to give a new impetus in
the development of education, especially the strengthening of the competence of
the basics of Reading, Writing and Numeracy.
Furthermore, education officer said
that the number of teachers in public secondary schools in the region is a
total of 3,390 teachers of whom 837 are teachers of science subjects and 2,553
teachers are the for art subjects.
While the number of teachers in
government primary schools in the region the region need to have 6,240
teachers, 5,256 existing teachers and 984 teachers are deficient.
Mfugale also said in order to
improve the teaching and learning of science subjects in secondary schools, a
total of 321 laboratory rooms are needed.
In terms of school teachers’ homes he
said the region needs 2,880 but 559 houses are available and existing pit latrines
are 2,174 compared to 2,679 requirements.
The guest of honor at the climax of
a week of reading in Iringa Region was the Mufindi District Commissioner, Jamhuri
William on behalf of Iringa Regional Commissioner Amina Masenza which started
on 19.05.2017 and ended on 05.25.2017 regionally at MAFINGA Town Council Iringa
Region, where all district councils participated fully after having conducted
the celebrations at council level.
He said the celebration of the Week
of Education for 2017 was deliberately used to give a new momentum in promoting
education, particularly the strengthening of the competence of the basics of
Reading, Writing and Numeracy.
William said that present government
under leadership of President Dr. John Pombe Magufuli makes a concerted effort
to ensure that education improved by removing some unnecessary contributions to
the implementation of Free Education.
The theme this year says: "The
best teaching skills of reading, writing and arithmetic is based on the
knowledge, skills and development of education in achieving industrial
economy".
