Edgar Lungu expected in Dar today

Zambia and Tanzania plan to sign several ambitious agreements that aim at strengthening bilateral diplomatic ties as well as trade and investment cooperation between the two countries during the visit by President Edgar Lungu.

The envisaged agreements include the opening of a new route between Dar es Salaam and Lusaka by Air Tanzania.

President Lungu is expected to arrive in Tanzania on Sunday for a two-day state visit on an invitation by President John Magufuli.

President Lungu’s visit by the Zambia leader comes just a few days after the meeting of the recent session of a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC), the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Augustine Mahiga, told a media conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Zambia, Ms Grace Mwijuma, said the recent JPC meeting agreed that the two countries should extend ties in other trade and investment sectors, insisting that Zambia was a strategic neighbour.

She noted that the two countries agreed to work together in the transport sector, immigration and prison departments, among others.

According to her, President Magufuli and President Lungu are on Monday expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in various trade and investment sectors.

“Our ministers are expected to sign an agreement on behalf of the two heads of state regarding collaboration in the aviation sector whereas Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) planes will establish a route between Dar es Salaam to Lusaka,” she said.

The envoy further said that the two leaders will sign another MoU on political and diplomatic consultations.
With that agreement, she said, leaders from both countries can meet anytime to deliberate on issues of diplomacy and politics when they arise.

On immigration and prison departments, Ms Mwijuma said there were several immigration issues that needed strong cooperation between Tanzania and Zambia, adding that the two countries have already agreed to look into the possibility of exchanging prisoners.

Tanzania and Zambia have also agreed to establish a simplified joint trade regime.

“We have many Tanzanian business-people in Zambia and also many Zambian business-people in Dar es Salaam. Therefore, we agreed that we extend our ties on this area,” said Ms Mwijuma, expressing optimism that President Lungu’s visit will be of greater advantage to the country.

Padri Fred Njuguna: Elimu Ya Ufundi Stadi Inaweza Kutatua Tatizo La Ajira Nchini

RECENTLY University of Iringa (UOI) (formerly Tumaini University College) has conducted the 19th Graduation Ceremony which saw a lot of graduands awarded with certificates, diplomas and degrees.

The Guardian on Sunday managed to talk to one of the graduands he has this to say about his fellow students who have graduated this year in various colleges and universities across the country.

Crispin Nyomoye is Public Relations Officer (PRO) at University of Iringa has this to advise his fellow students.

He has challenged his fellow university graduates to think outside the box and form partnership with other colleagues and universities graduates in order to create jobs for themselves and others.

Nyomoye was one of graduates awarded with a Masters Degree of Arts in Journalism and Media Management during the 19th Graduation Ceremony of UOI on 19th November 2016, which is first master’s degree in Tanzania and East Africa to be offered.
He said that many graduates of today are stuck in a job hunting cycle because they haven’t thought of innovative ideas.

"Most of the youth graduates these days are thinking of being employed rather than employing themselves…," he said.

He said in the global economic, social and political turbulent environment, only creative, skillful and innovative graduates who are able to move beyond the conventional methods of doing things could survive.

On his part, the Board Chairman of University of Iringa for the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCT) Diocese of Iringa, Dk. Owdenburg Mdegella (retired), has hailed the government on a new strategy that could bring an end to the use of fake certificates in securing jobs in the country.

He said that there has been an increase of use of fake degrees and certificates to secure employment in the country.

Dr. Mdegella made statement yesterday during the 19th Graduation of University of Iringa (UOI), where certificates, diplomas, degrees and master degrees were awarded to graduates in various fields by the UOI Chancellor retired Chief Justice Augustino Ramadhani.

He said the move by the government seeks to curb the use of fake certificates in securing jobs in an economy with a shortage of openings in the job market.

He said the move will empower the authority which regulates and supervises all qualifications given to students and maintain validity of degrees.

Dr. Mdegella said there is a stiff competition of colleges and universities in the country, but still they will continue to do well and exceed the most professional ascent.

He said they will continue to do well due to greater capacity and better accountability of the leaders of the university in promoting unity and solidarity in running the learning institution, thus urging all citizens continuously received good education at the university.
