WORLDSHARE BUILDS GIRLS DORMITORY TO REDUCE THE PROBLEM OF PREGNANCY

IRINGA: The WorldShare in South Korea have begun the construction of girls' hostel at Kidamali Secondary School located in Nzhi Ward in Iringa district, Iringa region to reduce the problem of pregnancy to female students. 


This was according to the Headmaster of Kidamali secondary School, Sixtus Kanyama school report to the visiting officials from the South Korea Embassy and officials from WorldShare a nongovernmental organization who accompanied the Minster of Foreign Affairs and East African cooperation Dr. Augustine Mahiga. 

He said the school is experiencing the problem of pregnancy to girls due to the absence of girls’ hostel where students are required to arrange local apartments hence they are attract various problems. 

Kanyama said that Kidamali Secondary School is faced with a number of challenges including pregnancies to girls because most of them have rented apartments and live alone without protection. 

He said that most pupils are walking a long way to school and spending about 40 kilometers every day and leading to a dramatic increase in inconvenience and incompetence. 

He said that the absence of a hostel for pupils has led to the problems for female students who are submitted to men's temptations and make school environment unfriendly to most pupils to continue with schooling. 

In adding, said that many female students are involved in peer-groups and that make the average 16 pregnancies reported annually in the school. 

On the other hand, Minster of Foreign Affairs and East Cooperation Dr. Augustine Mahiga thanked the Worldshare for accepting to construct a Girl’s dormitory at the Kidamali Secondary School situated in Iringa District. 

He said that the hostel is the answer to those problems, since many pupils with benefits to live and saying mostly female students will be marked by being under matron and teachers. 

Dr. Mahiga said that other benefits that students would have was that they will spend more time studying, would receive similar training and protection, many female students will succeed and join higher education. 

He said the Nara Memorial Dormitory' is a name where' Nara 'in Korean means country, Nara is the founder of the idea of ​​building a hostel for girls at Kidamali school, but she died before her idea came into reality. 



In addition, Kidamali Secondary School's Head girl, Emmi Mkupasi, on behalf of her pupils thanked the Worldshare Organization from South Korea together with Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mahiga for the purpose of looking for those stakeholders to come up to build a hostel for girls. 

She said that the presence of a hostel for girls would help reduce the problem of pregnancy for female students because many girls are struggling to finish school due to many challenges including the problem of pregnancy. 

Mkupasi a Form II student added that there were pupils who started the Form I together but left school because of the pregnancy because many students have rented apartments on the villages. 

Iringa District Executive Director Robert Masunya, who was accompanied by various district council officers, including the Nzihi Ward Councilor, Stephan Mhapa, thanked the organization (WorldShare) for the construction of hostel for girls. 

He said that secondary school is experiencing a lot of challenge including lack of library, lack of conference hall, science subject laboratories which are there but are not finished and pupils’ toilets. 

Masunya said that other challenges are teachers' homes, computer room, and water wells. 

However, WorldShare from South Korea has agreed to build a hostel for girls as well as build a fence around it, build modern toilets and digging water wells to solve the problem of water at school. 

Kidamali Secondary School (KDSS) is a ward school that has largely been built by the people's power. 

The school was opened on 30.05.2005 with 76 students; 40 boys and 36 girls, currently school has 600 students among 368 girls equal to 61 percent and 232 boys equal to 39 percent of all students. 



The school has 35 teachers, 15 female and 20 male and it has 15.84 acres of land, it is surrounded by four villages of Kipera, Nyamihuu, Nzihi and kidamali. 

WORLDSHARE KUJENGA HOSTELI YA WASICHANA KUPUNGUZA MIMBA SHULENI








Shirila lisilo la kiserekali la WorldShare toka Korea Kusini limeanza ujenzi wa hosteli ya wasichana katika Shule ya sekondari Kidamali iliyopo katika kata ya Nzhi wilayani Iringa, mkoani Iringa ilikupunguza tatizo la mimba kwa wanafunzi wa kike. 

Hayo yalifahamika jana wakati Mkuu wa Shule ya Sekondari Kidamali Sixtus Kanyama alipokuwa anatoa taarifa ya shule hiyo kwa maafisa toka ubalozi wa Korea Kusini na maafisa wa shirila la worldshare na waziri wa mambo ya nje na ushirikiano wa Afrika Mashariki. 

Alisema kuwa shule hiyo inakabiliwa na tatizo la mimba kwa watoto wa kike kutokana na kutokuwepo hosteli ya wasichana ambapo wanafunzi wanalazimika kupanga vyumba mitaa na kukumabana na vishawishi mbalimbali. 

Kanyama alisema kuwa Shule ya Sekondari Kidamali inakabiliwa na changamoto mbalimbali ikiwemo mimba kwa watoto wa kike kwa kuwa wingi wao wamepanga vyumba na kuishi pekee yao bila ulinzi. 

Alisema kuwa wanafunzi wengi wanatembea umbali mkubwa kwenda shule na kuridi takriban kilometa 40 kila siku na kupelekea kuongezeka kwa utoro mkubwa na kutojihusisha na masomo. 

Alisema kuwa kutokuwepo na hosteli kwa wanafunzi kumepelekea mdondoko kuwa mkubwa hasa kwa wanafunzi wa kike ambao husababishwa na vishawishi vya wanaume na kufanya mazingira ya shule kutovutia kuendelea na shule. 

Aidha, Mwalimu Mkuu huyo alisema kuwa wanafunzi wengi wakiwemo wa kike wanajihusisha na makundi rika yenye tabia hatarishi na kuongeza kuwa wastani wa mimba 16 zinaripotiwa kila mwaka katika shule hiyo. 

Kwa upande wake, Waziri wa Mambo ya Nje na Ushirikiano wa Afrika Mashariki Dkt Augustine Mahiga ambaye aliambana na maafisa wa Ubalozi ya Korea Kusini na maafisa wa WorldShare, alilishukuru Shirika la Worldshare kwa kukubali kujenga bweni la wasichana katika Shule ya Sekondari Kidamali. 

Alisema kuwa hosteli ni jibu kwa matatizo hayo, kwa kuwa zipo faida nyingi za wanafunzi kukuishi bwenini na kuzitaja faida hizo kuwa ni pamoja na wanafunzi wa kike watakuwa alama kwa kuwa watakuwa chini ya matroni na walimu. 

Dkt Mahiga alisema kuwa faida zingine kwamba wanafunzi watapata muda mwingi wa kujisomea, watapata malezi yanayofanana na kulindwa, wanafunzi wa kike wengi watafaulu na kujiunga na elimu ya juu. 

Alisema kuwa hosteli inayotarajia kujengwa hapo shuleni itapewa jina la ‘Nara Memorial Dormitory’ ambapo ‘Nara’ kwa luhga ya kikorea ina maana ya nchi, Nara ni mwanzishi wa wazo la kujenga hosteli ya wasichana katika shule ya kidamali, lakini amekufa kabla wazo lake halijatimia. 


Naye, Dada Mkuu wa Shule ya Sekondari Kidamali Emmi Mkupasi alilishukuru Shirika la Worldshare toka Korea Kusini pamoja na Waziri wa Mambo ya Nje Dkt Mahiga kwa kuwatafuta wadau hao kuja kuwajengea hosteli ya wasichana. 

Alisema kuwa uwepo wa hosteli ya wasichana kutasaidia kupunguza tatizo la mimba kwa wanafunzi wa kike kwa vile watoto wa kike wengi wanashinda kumaliza shule kutokana na changamoto nyingi ikiwemo tatizo la mimba. 

Dada mkuu Mkupasi kutoka kidato cha cha tatu aliongeza kuwa wapo wanafunzi walioanza nao kidato cha kwanza lakini waliaacha shule kwa sababu ya mimba kwa vile wanafunzi wengi wamepanga vyumba mitaani. 

Naye mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Halmashauri ya Wilaya ya Iringa Robert Masunya ambaye aliongozana na wataalamu mbalimbali wa halmashauri hiyo akiwemo Diwani wa Kata ya Nzihi, Stephan Mhapa, alishukuru shirika hilola worldshare kutoka korea kusini. 

Alisema kuwa shule ya kidamali ya sekondari inakabiliwa na changamoto ua ukosefu wa makataba, ukosefu wa ukumbi wa mikutano, maabara ya za masomo ya sayansi ambazo zipo lakini hazijamalika kujengwa na vyoo vilivyopo vyote matundu 16 ni chakavu. 

Masunya alisema kuwa changamoto zingine ni nyumba za walimu, maabara ya TEHEMA, na kisima cha maji. 

Hata hivyo, Shirika la WorldShare toka Korea kusini limekubali kujenga hosteli ya wasichana pamoja na kujenga fensi ya kuzunguka bweni hilo, kujenga vyoo na kuchimba visima vya maji ilikutatuwa tatizo la maji shuleni hapo. 

Shule ya sekondari kidamali ni shule ya kata ambayo kwa kiasi kikubwa imejengwa kwa nguvu za wananchi. Shule iko taarifa ya kalenga, kata ya nzihi na kidamali. 

Shule hii ilifunguliwa tarehe 30.05.2005 ikiwa na wanafunzi 76; wavulana 40 na wasichana 36, kwa sasa shule ina wanafunzi 600 kati yao wasichana 368 sawa na asilimia 61 na wavulana 232 sawa n asilimia 39 ya wanafunzi woyte. 

Shule hiyo ina walimu wako 35, wakikie 15 na wakiume 20 na ina wa ekari 15.84. Shule ya sekondari kidamali inahudumia jumla ya vijiji vine ambavyo ni Kipera, Nyamihuu, Nzihi na kidamali. Na Friday Simbaya, Iringa
