Mbeya Region suppliers who provide food services in state institutions owe the government 1.3bn/- and have asked President Dr. John Pombe Magufuli to help them claim their money from the institutions they owe.
They have said that the money that the government owe them come from providing food services at medical colleges Mbeya, Rukwa and state prisons which has not been paid since 2009, which has led other bidders to become bankrupt and some sold their houses.
The statement was issued yesterday by the Vice Chairman of the Association of Bidders in Mbeya region, Yahaya Lema when he was speaking to journalists in connection with that debt.
Lema said he was surprised to see the government not to paid them their debts when it is already approved hence them have begged President Magufuli to help so they can get their money.
"We have confidence in the President Magufuli who has been at the forefront in helping people , so we know he is going to hear our long time cry. I'm sure we going to be paid our money" said Lema.
Moreover Lema said that despite the government delay in paying their money to bidders they have yet continued to provide food service to the institutions that they owed.
Speaking at the conference one of the bidders, Frank Mwakang’ata mentioned resistant institutions that are Mbeya Medical College, Tukuyu College, Mbozi, health (CATC) Sumbawanga, vocational college owned by prisons department and all the prisons in Mbeya Region.
Commenting on these debts, Secretary of Mbeya medical college, Kola Juma said he had no information about any debt and claimed that the system food service has changed at college.
On his part, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Prisons in the region SACP, Julius Sang'udi said the institution was actually owes the debt to the suppliers but the debt has been forwarded to headquarters for verified.
