Minister of Justice Edgar Lungu has confirmed that Vice President Guy Scott has been appointed to act as acting of President of Zambia for 90 days following death of President Sata in accordance with the Zambian Constitution.
According to the Zambian Constitution a presidential by-election must be held within 90 days. Earlier, this year Vice-President Guy Scott told Parliament that he has been advised by lawyers that he is eligible to act as President in the absence of the incumbent.
Dr Scott said going by legal advice, he was eligible to act as President, though the Constitution did not allow him to stand for office of the Republican President in an election due to the parentage clause. (CREDIT: MWEBANTU NEW MEDIA)
