Another fatal accident has killed 23 people on the spot and leaving 34 others injured seriously, when lorry and mini bus collided head on at Kinyanambo A , Mafinga Township in Mufindi District, Iringa region yesterday.
The accident involved a mini bus with registration number T 927 CEF Mitsubishi Fuso belonging to Another G and a truck with registration numbers T916 AQM/T965 BEH Scania of Bravo Logistic (T) company collided head on along Iringa-Mbeya Road.
Driver of lorry carrying copper from Zambia heading to Dar es Salaam died on the spot but the driver from the minibus coming from Iringa Town survived but disappeared in the thin air after the accident.
The accident occurred yesterday at Kinyanambo area at around 19:00 hrs nightfall. The bodies are preserved at Mufindi District hospital Mortuary and injuries also hospitalized at the same hospital for medication.
According to the medical officer in charge Dr. Boaz peter, 23 dead bodies and 34 injuries were received at the hospital. There at least nine injuries admitted in Female Surgical and Gynecological ward number two. the injuries in her as Selina Lugenge, Veronica Simba, Berth Mkoi, Maria Mbese, Anita Makwela, Racheal Mavike, Ndivako Mbilinyi and Emma Lupembe.
Other in admitted in female medical ward including Jesca Mpenge, Mara Ngulo damian according the ward nurse in charge Catherine Fute.
He said 13 men, seven women and three children were among the dead whose bodies are preserved at Mufindi District Hospital Mortuary.
He said there are five passenger seriously injured and rushed to Iringa Region Referral Hospital further medical treatment.

Mlimbila confirmed to receive 23 deceased and 17 bodies have been identified but six bodies not yet and also 34 injuries brought at the hospital and seven other were treated and discharged.
The Iringa Regional Commissioner Amina Masenza, Mufindi District Commissioner Mboni Mhita, RPC, Ramadhani Mungi and Iringa Road Traffic Officer (RTO), ASP Leopord Fungu immediately rushed to the scene of accident together with the rescue team.
According to RTO, the cause of accident was reckless driving as the driver of the mini bus overtaking two vehicles at once without observation and unfortunately collided with truck coming from opposite direction.
According the eyewitnesses who were at the scene, the driver mini bus saw the accident and managed to escape unhurt and ran away after the accident.
Dc mhita pointed an accusing finger at the mini bus driver for reckless driving dispute of heavy traffic officers on the road checking for speed.
She said drivers driving at night take advantage of absence of police traffic officers on the road by overloading the buses and also they become negligence at night.
She said as district they have put in place the measures to control road accident by putting a lot of police officers checking for speed and that will help reduce the accident in the district.
This is second fatal accident to happen in the district after three months after another called Majinja killed passengers on the spot near Changarawe area in Mafinga, Mufindi District.
