Mufindi district hospital is now going to reduce the problem of shortage of beds for the pregnant women, after the hospital receiving medical equipment and supplies from Australia Tanzania society (ATS) yesterday.
The overcrowding of pregnant women in the maternity ward with the shortage of beds at the hospital has forced the pregnant women to sleep more than one in one bed and others are left sleeping on the floor.
Speaking to the journalist yesterday the acting medical officer in charge Dr. Abdul Mussa Msuya said that the donation will go a long way in reducing some of the problems the hospital was facing on a daily basis.
He said that lack of hospital equipment and medical supplies was a major barrier for doing surgical operations and limitation of nurses and midwives is also another challenge but with that donations it will help minimize the huge challenge that they face on daily basis.
Dr. Msuya said the hospital is at the moment facing the big challenges of doctors, health workers in all cadres, buildings and a laundry machine for washing hospital bedding.
Although he did not specify the number of doctors and health workers the hospital needed, he said that his hospital is badly in need of health workers in all cadres.
He said the hospital is also facing the challenge of overcrowding of patients because it is the only big hospital in the district.
"The hospital receives more than 130 outpatients’ everyday and it has the capacity of accommodating 237 inpatients due to the limited number of beds in wards, which means the hospital needs more buildings for wards," he said.
However, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Mafinga Town Constituency, Cosato Chumi has handed a number of hospital equipment and medical supplies to the district hospital yesterday.
He said the donation came from their development partner called Australia Tanzania Society (ATS) through Rafiki Surgical Missions which includes beds, mattresses, trolleys, wheelchairs, crutches, walking frames and many others.
Chumi said that ambition is to see help the community in Mafinga and Mufindi residents excel in health and water sectors as their major challenges the people is facing.
Rafiki Surgical Missions is part of the Australia Tanzania Society, an Australian and Tanzanian is a non-government organization.
Rafiki's mission is to help Tanzania deal with its reconstructive surgery needs whilst at the same time assist in capacity building through the transfer of surgical, anesthetic, physiotherapy and nursing skills to medical professional in Tanzania.
In an effort to help alleviate severe shortages in medical and hospital equipment, Rafiki also aims to provide much-needed equipment to hospitals and medical facilities in Tanzania.
