Mkurugenzi wa Idara ya Maafa kutoka Ofisi ya Waziri Mkuu, Brigedia Jenerali Mbazi Msuya amewataka wananchi waliokumbwa na uhaba wa chakula nchini kufuata ushauri wa wataalam kwa kupanda mimea inayostahimili ukame ikiwemo mtama na uwele ili kuondokana na adha hiyo kila mwaka.
Akizungumza jana na wananchi wa vijiji vya Iguluba na Mkulula vilivyopo kata ya Malenga Makali, Tarafa ya Isimani ambayo imeathirika zaidi na upungufu wa chakula wilayani Iringa, Brigedia jenerali Msuya amesema serikali itawapatia wananchi hao mbegu za mtama za bure ili wapande msimu huu.
Mkurugenzi wa Idara ya Maafa amefuatana na ujumbe wake kutathmini hali ya upungufu wa chakula wilayani Iringa na kujiridhisha na ugawaji wa msaada uliotolewa na serikali na kujua ni maeneo gani yanahitaji msaada zaidi.
Brigedia Jenerali Msuya anawahakikishia wananchi kuwa hakuna mwananchi atakayekufa kwa njaa.
Wakielezea hali halisi ya upungufu wa chakula wananchi wameishukuru serikali kwa kupelekea chakula lakini wakaomba kujengewa mabwawa ya umwagiliaji, maghala ya kuhifadhi chakula pamoja na mbegu zinazostahimili ukame.
Brigedia Jenerali Msuya na timu yake pia, wameshuhudia zoezi la ugawaji wa chakula kwa kaya zilizokumbwa na upungufu ukiendelea katika kijiji cha Igingilanyi na kusema kuwa serikali inatambua chakula hicho hakitoshelezi mahitaji yote.
Zaidi ya watu elfu 76 wilayani Iringa wanakabiliwa na upungufu wa chakula uliosababishwa na mvua chache zilizonyesha msimu uliopita.
Wiki mbili iliyopita serikali ilitoa tani 200 kwa kaya zilizokubwa na njaa kutokana na ukame.

Brigedia Jenerali Msuya na timu yake pia, wameshuhudia zoezi la ugawaji wa chakula kwa kaya zilizokumbwa na upungufu ukiendelea katika kijiji cha Igingilanyi na kusema kuwa serikali inatambua chakula hicho hakitoshelezi mahitaji yote.

IRINGA: Director of the Department of Disaster from the Office of the Prime Minister, Brigadier General Mbazi Msuya has urged citizens affected by food shortages in following the advice of experts to plant drought resistant crops including sorghum and millet to overcome the persecution every year.
Speaking yesterday to citizens at Iguluba and Mkulula villages in Malengamakali Ward, Isimani Division which is most affected by food shortages in Iringa district, Brigadier General Msuya said the government will give the citizens sorghum seeds free to plant into this season.
Director of the Department of Disaster his delegation came to assess the state of food insecurity in Iringa district, Iringa Region and assurance and distribution of the support given by the government to know what areas need more support.
Brigadier General Msuya he assured the public that no citizen will die of hunger.
Explain the real situation of food insecurity, citizens have thanked the government for giving them food but asked the government to build up dams for irrigation, food storage facilities and provide them with drought-resistant seeds.
Brigadier General Msuya and his team have also witnessed the distribution relief food to the households affected by food shortage in the Igingilanyi village and said the government is aware that food was not enough to cover all needs.
Over 76 thousand people Iringa District faced with food shortages caused by low rainfall last season.
Two weeks ago the government brought 200 tons of relief food to affected households in the villages of Isimani Division, Iringa district.
