Hello
At its best, serious, public-interest journalism can be a force for positive change in the world. Last week, after years of campaigning journalism by the Guardian, the UK government announced that leaseholds on new-build houses in England are to be banned following widespread outrage over exploitative contracts.
Journalist Patrick Collinson has doggedly and fairly interrogated the issue in a series of reports, giving voice to property buyers trapped in an unfair system and challenging house-building firms and the government to act.
“This is an out-of-control sector that greedily exploits the desperate need for homes, and it needs to be brought under control, fast,” wrote the Guardian in its editorial.
Your support helps us dedicate time and resources to important issues like this. Thank you. You can catch up with all you need to know about the story here.
We also asked the Guardian’s Paris correspondent, Angelique Chrisafis, to tell you what it’s been like reporting from and on Macron’s France. Her article explores the challenges of covering a president “in an ivory tower”, who likes to tightly control all communications – read it here. And remember, you can explore other articles, podcast and videos we’ve commissioned with our supporters in mind here.
Kind regards,
