INSPECTOR General of Police (IGP), Simon Sirro, has vowed to deal with unethical police officers especially those expose the information of whistleblowers yesterday, reports Friday Simbaya, Iringa.
IGP was responding to the question posed him by the TUMBUSI BLOG, who wanted how police were prepared to protect people bring information to the police about wrongdoings.
TUMBUSI BLOG said whistleblowers take the risk of facing stiff reprisal and retaliation from those who are accused or alleged of wrongdoing.
Sirro said police force was read to protect whistleblowers at any cost because they bring information or allegations to surface either internally or externally but vowed to deal with any police officer leading exposing the information of the whistleblowers.
“The information of alleged wrongdoing can be classified in many ways: violation of company policy/rules, law, regulation, or threat to public interest/national security, as well as fraud, and corruption,” he said.
A whistleblower is a person who exposes any kind of information or activity that is deemed illegal, unethical, or not correct within an organization that is either private or public.
In addition, the IGP Sirro has requested citizens in the country in particular Iringa region, to avoid take the law in their hands (mob justice) and instead to obey the law without force and that the Police Force will ensure that they take serious legal measures to end the practice.
Sirro claims that statistics on importing illegal drugs and drug abuse have declined significantly due to the ongoing operation of the police force.
