Iringa region plans to construct 100 industries

By Friday Simbaya, Iringa

THE Iringa Regional Commissioner Amina Juma Masenza has hailed local investors and all those from abroad who decided to invest in the Region.

She made the statement yesterday during the launching of the Campaign for promoting industrial construction in the region, through the theme, "Our Region, Our Industries" campaign.

Data shows, until now Iringa Region has 24 major Industries, 35 industries, 149 factories and more than 3,000 smaller industries.

She said all those industries provide livelihoods of 15,000 people, equivalent to 1.6 percent of the population of the entire Iringa Region.

“Our goal is to increase this level of industry so that they can contribute significantly to the Regional Economy,” said Masenza.

Masenza said they were planning to construct more than 100 industries, adding that will only happen if each of them ready for his role.

“Our district councils will govern the coordination in collaboration of district commissioners, since each Council has been entrusted with the creation of 35 new industries.

In addition, some institutions have already set targets including the SIDO Region to build not less than 20 industries and other institutions have expressed the desire to support these efforts including religious organizations, Cooperatives and other development stakeholders.

RC Masenza has called on councils to set up an ideal environment for industrial construction and to promote the efforts of those with good intentions to invest in industries, including other regulatory authorities such as TANESCO, TRA, IRUWASA, TBS, TFDA and the rest of them to assist in setting up the environment in implementing this campaign.

She encouraged Citizens also continue to grow more agricultural produce and increase productivity because there are no industrial raw materials and raw materials for agricultural products.

She said the production of those products should not only focus on the foreign market rather than local market for these products first.

“I call upon all of us to love and use the products produced in our Region first,” she emphasized.
