UHURU Torch Race in 2018 intends to launch a total of 40 development projects worth of 24.2 billion shillings in Iringa Region, it has been established.
Speaking with journalists yesterday, Iringa Regional Commissioner, Amina Masenza, said that the projects come from education sectors ten (10) , health sector, four (4) water, one natural resource, five (5), two industries, one fishing, and the anti corruption clubs (4) projects.
She added that the cost of projects was based on contributions from the community 1.3 billion shillings, central government shillings 8.64 billion, district councils 253.6 million shillings and development stakeholders contributed 14.3bn/-.
Masenza said that the Iringa region will begin the race for on 23/05/2018 after receiving from Mbeya Region.
"In the Iringa region, the Uhuru Torch will pass through all five (5) district councils to development activities as follows; Mufindi District Council on 23/05/2018, Iringa District Council (24/05/2018), Kilolo district council (25/05/2018), Iringa Municipal Council (26/05/2018) and Mafinga Town on 27/05/2018, " Masenza explained.
The Uhuru Torch Race in 2018 was launched in Geita Region by the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Kassim Majiliwa on 02/05/2014 which will be run into 31 regions and ultimately to be concluded by Dr. John Pombe Magufuli in Tanga region on 14/10/2018.
