IRINGA REGION IMPLEMENTS MAGUFULI DIRECTIVE OF MAKING DESKS

Iringa Region has implemented the directive of President Dr John Magufuli of finishing the problem of shortage of desks by making 26, 347 desks which was the shortage for the whole region.

On Thursday 30, 2016, Iringa Regional Commissioner Amina Masenza has handed over part of these desks during a brief ceremony held at the Vocational Education Technical College (VETA) Workshop in Iringa municipality, Iringa region and said 21,304 desks were completed and distributed in the schools.

She said that in Iringa Region there is facing the shortage of 26,347 desks, that is, 26,047 desks is for 478 primary schools and 3,301 desks for 107 secondary schools respectively.

"To date we have completed 21, 304 desks, of which 8,163 for primary schools and 1,264 for secondary schools are still making in various workshops and funding for these desks have already been paid," she said.

She said the desks delayed will be completed within the allotted time by July 15, this year and will be distributed to the schools as soon as possible.

"The desks were not completed on time because carpenters who were assigned to do the work had a lot work to do in that the work itself required urgency and focused," she said. 

She said fund for making school desks were made through the respectively district council’s budgets and part of the contributions came from of various development stakeholders who are either outside and inside Iringa region.

President Magufuli issued a directive to all regional commissioners in ensuring all pupils and students are sitting on desk by June 30 this year.

To comply with this instruction, Masenza said she was forced to share problem with her district commissioner in collaboration with their developmental partners who have helped them finish shortages.

However, RC Masenza said 200 desks was given to the Iringa municipal council, 100 desks was given to Mafinga Town Council, Iringa Rural was given 100 desks, 100 desks went to Mufindi District and Kilolo district council got 100 desks respectively.
