Iringa Regional Commissioner (RC), Amina Masenza has told off rape and sodomy persistently arises in society and warned that such acts should not happen again in 2017.
Masenza made the statement on Monday while speaking to journalists at her office, where she also used the opportunity to wish the citizens of Iringa region blessed Christmas and New Year in 2017.
RC has also directed the security organs to work and identify the perpetrators and bring them to the course of justice.
She also asked the citizens of Iringa Region to protect children against rape to young children.
"It is our duty to ensure we are all completely eradicating all actions that contributes to breach of peace in our region of Iringa and the country in general," Masenza said.
In addition, she asked the citizens of Iringa Region to ensure they maintain peace and unity to the region continue to have peace and calm.
"I would like to wish you a good feast of Christmas and New Year 2017 with abundant prosperity. I beg you to make sure you celebrate these holidays in peace, security and stability, "she said.
She said the government would ensure the protection and safety are made available throughout the festival because experience shows that in the holiday season people do not like to see peace and stability of the region by using this period to commit a crime.
Amina Maenza is the 21st Iringa Regional Commissioner since the introduction of this region in 1964, where the 1st Iringa Regional Commissioner was Philemon Muro (1964-1968).
Meanwhile, the governor has called on citizens to make better use of rain to grow crops to ensure food security.
She said that in areas that receive very little rainfall particularly in Mahenge and Isimani areas to plant crops that are drought resistance.
In addition, RC has reminded citizens to plant trees in the rainy season in that region have good weather for growing trees.
