IRINGA: Mission Director of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Tanzania, Andy Karas has been satisfied with the implementation of the Tanzania Social Action Fund (Tasaf) in Iringa district, through the program to assist poor people in the country for the third phase.
Karas said yesterday when he and his delegation visited Igingailanyi Village in Iringa District, Iringa region to see the results of various USAID programs such as the agriculture, nutrition, education, health, women and youth and good governance.
He said he was pleased seeing some of beneficiaries have changed their lives by setting up various projects including poultry and pigs.
"I am very happy to see some of the people change their lives because of having better housing through USAID's support through the TASAF through its plan to help poor people," said Karas.
The USAID Mission Director Andy Karas was in Iringa region from Monday to Friday last week for an overview of USAID's multi programs implemented in the region with and see how beneficiaries of the programs have benefited.
He said that the visit reflects the wide range of US funded projects in Tanzania, including agriculture, nutrition, education, health, women and youth and good governance.
In turn, the TASAF Director of Community Support, Amadeus Kamagenge, has hailed USAID in assisting government efforts to eradicate poverty in the country.
"TASAF is a program to help poor Households and it has been in phase three (III) until now to empower the poor Households to get rid of the poor economy," said Kamagenge.
The total of 97 households of Igingilanyi Village in Iringa District, Iringa Region benefit from the social development fund (TASAF) through the program of alleviating poverty from poor households, which has been reported that these households have been paid 14 times and more than 49 million shillings have been paid for beneficiaries.
However, the government is committed to furthering the initiative to help poor people in the country known as the TASAF in the third phase by creating good infrastructure for identifying targeted Households and eliminating public complaints that this scheme has been a few Households.
