Iringa Police in their effort to reduce road traffic accidents has begun to conduct the operation of inspecting all drivers’ licenses including the passenger buses.
Speaking to journalists yesterday Iringa Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)Juma Bwire said that due to the existence of licensing fake licenses and the lack of training at work for drivers was one of the factor contributing road traffic accidents.
He said that training was to remind drivers on the importance of safe driving that will include refresher course to drivers.
Commander Bwire said the operation will begin on July 4 to July 7 this year, but from 9 July to Saturday of July 14 expecting drivers to be given job on training.
The action has come after the change of police chief in the country (IGP) Simon Sirro to make changes to police commander in some regions.
The change in accordance with the IGP is aimed at increasing efforts to prevent frequent accidents in some regions.
On the other hand, Salum Chang'a who is a bus driver hailed the police force operation and forced his fellow drivers to cooperate in dealing with the crash in the area here.
Chang'a, who was the first driver to be inspected and investigated, said that for the operation of the police, they should start with truck drivers and IT drivers to fight alcoholism.
He said that many motorcyclists used to drink alcoholic beverages at every station especially in the areas of Ruaha Mbuyuni and the Mikumi in Morogoro.
He added that alcohol is a center of traffic accidents and if they can conduct alcohol testing to truck drivers and small vehicles it will help reduce accidents.
At another point, the Iringa police has picked up the body Yakobo Mhengilolo, 23 years resident of Kibengu Village in Iringa District was found dead on a road leading to the Kibengu village.
RPC said took place on 02/07/2018 at around 19:30 hrs at Usokami Village, Kibengu sub district at around, Iringa District in Iringa Region.
